Activewear has an environment-friendly problem, and Definite Articles is working to change that.

Dec 09 2021

Activewear has an environment-friendly problem, and Definite Articles is working to change that. Started by the Co-Founder and CEO of Untuckit, Aaron Sanandres, Definite Articles is a newly launched brand aimed at creating a more sustainable activewear line. The brand is starting with socks composed of 51% sustainable nylon, 23% BCI cotton, 23% sustainable recycled polyester, 3% spandex, and Ciclo—a pellet additive making the sock textiles degradable at the same rate as natural fibers when in sea water, wastewater, landfills, and / or treatment plants. Sanandres came up with the idea for Definite Articles after realizing the rate at which he cycled through his sports socks, combined with the fact that activewear has traditionally been bad for the environment due to the polyester and nylon they’re made of and the plastic leakage that occurs when washing the clothes. A July 2021 report by Changing Markets reveals that when it comes to activewear, most sports brands rely on synthetic fabrics. More performance wear products from the brand plan to drop in the coming year, and it could make other activewear brands start thinking about using less synthetic fabrics, too. (Glossy)
