U.K. hair care brand Afrocenchix has released a first-of-its-kind Christmas ad on Channel 4 featuring a Black woman with natural hair. Called “Get It Right This Christmas,” the ad shows a woman with natural hair having trouble getting her curls in shape for a Christmas party—until she tries an Afrocenchix product. The ad signals a change in attitude towards natural hair as well as a shift toward more diverse representation in the U.K.’s media landscape. YPulse’s WE TV and Entertainment research found that 84% of young Britons want TV shows and movies to make an effort to represent all races while a recent study found that BIPOC people are underrepresented in the film industry.
