The Crisis Text Line launched the nation’s only Spanish-language text crisis line to reach Latino consumers. According to the nonprofit, about 40% of the English-language text line’s clients in 2020 were people of color, with more than 20% of users identifying as Latino. Meanwhile, an American Psychological Association survey previously reported that only around 6% of therapists of any race or ethnicity provide sessions in Spanish. YPulse’s State of Mind trend research found that 62% of 13-39-year-old Hispanic consumers say the pandemic has negatively impacted their mental health, and the Crisis Text Line launched a new Spanish-text crisis line to reach the demographic. When they launched a pilot version of the program earlier this year, it yielded more than 1,000 Spanish-language text conversations, with depression, anxiety, and relationship issues among the most common problems Latinos spoke about during those interactions. To use the service, people in need of help can text HOLA to 741741 or text 442-AYUDAME in WhatsApp to be connected with Spanish-speaking crisis counselors. (Insider)
