Disney+ unveiled a slate of APAC content from Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, China, and Australia to expand their global offerings. YPulse’s Borderless Culture trend report found that a majority of young consumers enjoy content from other countries, and following the massive global success of Netflix Korean drama Squid Game, Disney+ unveiled their own slate of Asia-Pacific films and TV shows which include 20-plus global, regional, and local-language projects. Some of the most anticipated productions include documentary BLACKPINK: THE MOVIE about the popular K-pop group, romantic drama Rookies starring K-pop sensation Kang Daniel, romantic melodrama series Snowdrop starring BLACKPINK’s Jisoo, and a variety of animated, comedy, fantasy, drama, sci-fi, crime, and horror content. According to Disney Asia Pacific president Luke Kang: “With over-the-top services going mainstream, emergence of world-class content from Asia Pacific and rising consumer sophistication, we believe that this is the right time for us to deepen our collaboration with the region’s best content creators to deliver unparalleled storytelling to global audiences.” (Deadline, Kidscreen)
