Snapchat and Pinterest are rolling out new creator offerings and shoppable content. As Snapchat continues offering payments to attract creators, the social platform is rolling out Spotlight Challenges, giving creators the chance to win cash prizes (ranging from $250-$25,000) for making the best-performing short-videos. Three to five participants are able to win each challenge, and the top 50 eligible submissions will be judged on creativity, use of Snap tools (like lenses, sounds, or hashtags), unique POV, and entertainment value. Snapchat is also introducing a “sponsored” tag feature, allowing creators to show collaborations with brands while getting 100% of the sponsored tag transactions. Meanwhile, Pinterest is incorporating new shoppable ad formats including slideshow ads that pull products from a brand’s catalogue to generate a rotating, four-image ad, and idea ads, building on the platform’s idea pins feature by allowing a creator to make an idea pin and tag a brand partner (brands can promote the idea pin and the tool will automatically generate a “paid partnership” label).
