Target, Pottery Barn, and more retailers are getting a headstart on holiday marketing this year. To combat supply chain problems and product delays, holiday promotions are starting extra early in 2021 to ensure consumers can get a jumpstart on shopping while avoiding product delays. Target’s Deal Days event kicks off October 10-12, and the retailer is also offering price adjustments to shoppers who buy between October 10-December 24 for items that may go on sale later in the season (plus competitor price-matching for two weeks after they purchase). Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma are also leaning into holiday messaging by giving shoppers a sneak peak at their holiday collections via email messaging. Klarna research found that 50% of shoppers are starting their holiday shopping early to ensure product availability, while 57% of Gen Z and 53% of Millennials say they plan to spend more on gift-giving this year than they did last year. YPulse’s 2021 holiday shopping data (which we’ll be sharing in our Holiday Unwrapped webinar) shows the majority of young shoppers are worried COVID-19 related shipping delays will make it hard to shop for the presents they want to give.
