U.K. firms are trying to lure young workers back to the office with perks.

Sep 15 2021

U.K. firms are trying to lure young workers back to the office with perks. YPulse’s research shows that 75% of young workers in the U.K. don’t want to return to the office full-time even after the threat of COVID is gone, and a recent study from the European Commission found that 40% of the EU’s workforce is now working remote full-time, compared to only 5.4% in 2019. With so many opting to stay home, companies in the U.K. are offering incentives to get young workers back in the office, including free beer, free breakfast, corporate merch, popcorn carts, and even a £1,000 bonus. Research from Clockwise found that the majority of 16-24-year-olds want to return to the office. Three in ten report missing the social element of work, while the same amount is having trouble differentiating between personal and work time when working from home. In fact, almost three-quarters of respondents reported that a sense of workplace community spurs productivity—and is just more enjoyable than all those Zoom meetings—free beer or not.
