Nostalgic food mashups are aiming for Gen Z and Millennials’ hearts. According to research from Mintel, young consumers are seeking out familiar foods from their childhood to “bring a sense of comfort in a time when [they’re] more affected by stress than ever before.” Food manufacturers have been serving up dessert and candy mashups in an attempt to win over Gen Z and Millennials: Duncan Hines released a confetti cake mix with Fruity Pebbles-flavored frosting; Kraft Heinz is churning up unexpected ice cream with a “Kit Kat Colliders Twisted Vanilla Flavored Dessert”; and Milk Bar has an ice cream flavor featuring cornflakes, chocolate chips, and marshmallows. Mintel predicts that pudding and brownies could be brands’ next move in the nostalgic food mashup scene. (Axios)
