A group of parents are calling on TikTok for access to videos their kids are watching.

Aug 05 2021

A group of parents are calling on TikTok for access to videos their kids are watching. YPulse’s The Privacy Issue trend research shows that 92% of Millennial parents are concerned about their child’s online privacy, but they don’t want their kids’ social media activities to remain private from them. More than 12,000 people have signed a petition from advocacy group ParentsTogether requesting that TikTok roll out accounts that allow parents to see the same feed of content their kids are interacting with. The petition comes after some minors have fallen victim to unsafe and sometimes fatal challenges (like the “blackout challenge”) on the app. TikTok has introduced safety features that give more power to parents like disabling direct messages, turning on restricted content mode, and setting screen-time limits. But the new feature that parents are urging TikTok to create would “help parents monitor the often dangerous content their kids are seeing.” (NPR)
