Kids shows centered on social issues won big at this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards. We already told you about how kid shows are prioritizing diversity and inclusion, and at the end of June, many shows that focused on social issues were recognized and awarded at the 48th annual Daytime Emmy Awards. HBO Max and Sesame Workshop’s The Power of We: A Sesame Street Special, about standing up to racism, took home two awards including Outstanding Preschool, Children’s or Family Viewing Program. Meanwhile, Netflix received 56 nominations for its kids programming walking away with 12 trophies, including Lupita Nyong’o who won an acting award for the streaming service’s Bookmarks: Celebrating Black Voices. YPulse’s Representation in Action trend research found 53% of Millennial parents have had their child watch a TV show/movie because it featured a diverse cast. (Kidscreen)
