Plant-based infant and toddler food is an industry to watch. Plant-based food has exploded in recent years, fueled by its success with Gen Z and Millennials. Now, with companies like Oatly and Beyond Meat going public and even becoming fast-food chain staples, the trend is officially mainstream—but there are still more ways it could grow. The infant and toddler food industry “has seen little disruption” since formula was introduced, but could be getting a plant-based shake up. Thanks to food sensitivities, many parents are looking for non-dairy options for their children, which could make plant-based options a success. Startups like Sprout Organics and Little Spoon have been growing quickly, and U.K.-based Mamamade foods’ sales reportedly grew 300% during COVID. YPulse’s cooking and diets research found that Millennial parents are even more interested in plant-based foods than their non-parent peers, with 78% saying they eat or are interested in eating plant-based foods and beverages, compared to 66% of non parents.
