Print book sales have been soaring, with young adult fiction selling more than anything else.

Jul 14 2021

Print book sales have been soaring, with young adult fiction selling more than anything else. Yes, young people do read books, and YPulse’s hobbies and passions research shows that 34% of Gen Z and Millennials have been reading books to take care of their mental health during COVID-19. Sales for print books jumped 18.5% in the first six months of 2021 compared to one year prior, according to NPD BookScan, and young adult fiction is seeing the largest gain, with sales up by 48.8%. They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera is this year’s top selling title in the YA category. Despite being published in 2018 the book’s exposure on TikTok (a.k.a. BookTok) is helping sales soar in 2021. Juvenile and adult fiction sales also rose 17.8% and 30.7% respectively, and some publishers are betting that the rise in reading will continue. (Publishers Weekly)
