Some young employees are worried about how WFH may affect their ability to network and feel connected with their company. According to a new poll from Generation Lab, 40% of college students and recent grads say they prefer fully in-person work, 39% want a hybrid workplace, 19% want to work remotely, and 3% have no preference. YPulse’s employment and career goals research also found that while more than half of Millennials plan to work from home post-COVID, many would prefer a hybrid experience or choosing when to go into the office. Young workers do desire office community, in-person feedback/mentoring, office amenities, and the ability to socialize/network. Young workers are also more likely to live in smaller homes/apartments with roommates, and 45% say they worry about having access to a distraction-free work environment if remote work becomes permanent—at least to some extent. A psychologist at Clark University also notes, “anxiety and depression has gone up in [18-29-year-olds]…it can be a lonely time already for them especially, remote work may have been isolating.” (Axios)
