Gen Z and Millennials’ latest home decor (and TikTok) obsession is DIY tufted rugs. YPulse’s hobbies and passions research shows that arts/crafts is the second most popular hobby 13-39-year-olds picked up to occupy their time during COVID, and rug making is gaining a surprising amount of popularity among Gen Z and Millennials—at least according to social media. Teens and twenty somethings have started dabbling in tufted rug designs inspired by clothing brands, celebrity musicians, creators, and more. Fire Rugs, RugSoda, and IMakeRugs are a few TikTok accounts that have gained viral success by sharing their oddly satisfying DIY rug making videos. These young rug makers have grown businesses out of their passions, with fans commissioning rugs of their favorite pop culture icons and images. The 25-year-old artist behind IMakeRugs launched a site selling supplies and more, and reports reaching over $1 million in revenues in less than a year. (WSJ)
