Sally Beauty is leaning into TikTok for a new campaign celebrating self-expression through vibrant hair colors. After seeing a video go viral on TikTok about the beauty in coloring one’s hair in vibrant, upbeat hues, inspiration struck for Sally Beauty. The original video from creator and musician Heather Chelan has been embraced by many, noting that “having colored hair doesn’t make you unprofessional”—the new anthem for Sally Beauty’s campaign. The video spot debuted Friday and features Chelan’s jingle about hair coloring, with spots of industry professionals sporting their bright colored looks, including Sally Beauty’s CEO showing off his purple, green, and blue hair. After watching sales for bright colored hair dye jump during the pandemic (an industry young consumers helped fuel), Sally Beauty has been reaching out to Gen Z on YouTube and TikTok, and is betting that people’s desire for authenticity and vibrant hair colors will continue post-COVID.
