Student athletes could soon get paid for sponsored content on Twitter. In anticipation of upcoming legislation that will allow student athletes to be compensated for their name, image, and likeness, Twitter is working with sports technology company Opendorse to bring paid, athlete-generated content to its platform. The effort will enable advertisers to sponsor and support brand-safe content produced by student athletes, as well as browse, pitch, and align with them for Twitter video campaigns. Student athletes will also have the ability to review invitations from advertisers, and will be compensated for video content that is published to their Twitter account and used as ads by brands. YPulse’s Scouting Next Gen Sports Fans trend research found that 63% of 13-39-year-olds consider themselves a sports fan, but they’re turning to social media for their sports content and news.
