MLB is getting into NFTs to create 21st century baseball cards (a.k.a. digital collectibles of baseball legends). YPulse told you how brands, musicians, and more are using NFTs to tap into young people’s interest in owning exclusive items, and now the MLB is getting into the crypto-art trend. In partnership with Fanatics Chairman Michael Rubin and a multiyear licensing deal with Candy Digital to produce non-fungible tokens, MLB is entering the NFT space to create more opportunities for sports fans to own a part of their passion. MLB is making its NFT debut with an exclusive Lou Gehrig digital collectible to raise more money and awareness for ALS. Bidding will start July 4, and the MLB says more NFTs of baseball legends like Babe Ruth and Jackie Robinson could be the organization’s next step in the cryptocurrency space to connect baseball fans with their favorite players.
