Pro gamers are starting to quit esports to pursue more sustainable careers as influencers. While esports tournaments and gaming events continue to be widely popular among young consumers, some pro gamers say the industry is causing them to feel burnt out, with some choosing to pursue their own content creation on Twitch and YouTube to engage with their community in new and personal ways. According to the head of esports at United Talent Agency, more players are making the switch to content creation on platforms where their communities are already hanging out (a.k.a. YouTube and Twitch) because they crave the flexibility and profitability that’s possible for influencers with large followings—something pro gamers already have. Corsair is even reallocating its budget to prioritize sponsoring gaming content creators versus esports competitions because they’re seeing more engagement from gaming influencers. More young people are tuning into video game content and gaming-related platforms, and this new area for pro esports players is opening up new opportunities. (Wired)
