Netflix is conquering decision fatigue for streamers with its new Play Something viewing mode.

Apr 30 2021

Netflix is conquering decision fatigue for streamers with its new Play Something viewing mode. YPulse predicted tackling content overload would become a big trend for streamers in 2021. While decision fatigue—the feeling consumers get when there’s too much content to choose from on streaming services—isn’t always a bad thing, consumers are growing frustrated by the endless viewing options available on services like Hulu, Disney+, Peacock, and more. YPulse data shows that young consumers are subscribing to more services than ever before, and 60% say they’re interested in an option that simplifies their browsing options for them. Luckily for young streamers, Netflix’s new Play Something feature is designed to do exactly that. Play Something transports streamers to a viewing mode where a TV show or movie is immediately picked for the consumer upon entering the streaming service. The feature—which will roll out to all Netflix TV apps and soon Android devices—chooses content based on the consumer’s previous viewing history and personalized preferences. (Vulture)
