Zigazoo is the newest short-form video app celebrities are funding to provide a “kid-first” social media experience.  YPulse first wrote about Zigazoo last year when TikTok copycats started rolling out—but the app is focused on a much younger audience, and it’s gaining traction. Zigazoo was created by tech entrepreneurs Zak and Leah Ringelstein as a way to provide an interactive short-form video experience for children three-to-12-years-old. The app lets kids browse videos, participate in 30-second challenges across various categories like math, art, health, and fitness, and create their own snippets. Celebrity investors including Jimmy Kimmel and Serena Williams are jumping at the app, and helped fund the MaC Venture Capital’s current $4 million round of fundraising. More than anything though, Zigazoo is adding parents to the conversation of how kids use social media by participating in the kidSAFE Seal Program and putting several steps in place to protect children from harm and abuse. YPulse found that 79% of kids are already on social media, and Zigazoo could be part of a new wave of creating safe social media experiences for young children.
