| Young people are having second thoughts about having children as they consider the social anxieties they’ve experienced. YPulse’s research shows that 68% of 18-39-year-olds agree that they don’t want to bring a child into this world right now. And it seems increasing anxiety about climate change is contributing to their feelings: According to a University of Arizona study, 18-35-year-olds say that climate change is the driver of their decision to stay childless. Gen Z and Millennials also say financial security is keeping them from wanting to have kids as they feel it’s “morally or ethically wrong” to put children through possibly worse experiences than they have lived through. While COVID-19 lockdowns were predicted to produce a COVID baby boom, the U.S. is expecting 300,000 to 500,000 fewer births in 2021. Economic and environmental factors are weighing on younger generations, and it may take a lot of change for them to consider kids in their future. (MarketWatch) |
