Kylie Cosmetics has brought “promise and peril” to Coty following the acquisition. Prior to buying Kylie Jenner’s beauty brand last year, Coty had some “unconventional concerns,” from whether sales would decline if Jenner had another child, if she could “reliably stay out of trouble,” and figuring out what role her “momanger” Kris would play. A year after following the deal, Kylie Cosmetics “bolstered” Coty thanks to Jenner’s social media following and new skincare brand Kylie Skin (which “tripled” by the end of October compared with the same period the year before), but also “dealt it some blows.” While a lawsuit filed by a private-label manufacturer threatened their reputation, sales were also depressed by “COVID-related supply-chain disruptions” over the summer.
