“Nailfluencers” are gaining “cult status” online as quarantined young consumers do their own manicures at home.

Jan 11 2021

“Nailfluencers” are gaining “cult status” online as quarantined young consumers do their own manicures at home. Last year’s lockdowns affected nail salons and nail specialists, but as the pandemic raged on and desperate clients reached out, they adjusted to the new norm. Celebrity nail artist Brittney Boyce started off by sending hand-painted press-on nails with her popular designs to clients in the mail, and eventually launched Nails of LA, a direct-to-consumer site. Now, “nailfluencers” have taken off during the “era of at-home manicures.” Startup ManiMe collaborated with 16 different celebrities like Dua Lipa, Marc Jacobs, A$AP Ferg, and Jonathan Van Ness last month, and has over 246K followers on Instagram. According to the brand’s co-founder Jooyeon Song, “artwork and designers are the biggest trends in nails right now, and they will continue in 2021.” (Glossy)
