Teachers are getting on TV to reach students having a difficult time with remote learning.

Jan 06 2021

Teachers are getting on TV to reach students having a difficult time with remote learning. Around the country, some educators have teamed up with local TV stations to help teachers make their broadcast debuts and engage kids who “are stuck in the doldrums of distance learning.” In hour-long programs like Let’s Learn NYC!, which air either on the weekends or after school, instructors teach subjects like math and science, music, and take audiences on “virtual field trips” to botanical gardens and dance theaters. The idea, which is a throwback to the “early days” of public TV,  is to supplement online lessons for some families who don’t have reliable internet connection or laptops at home, and to reach kids who “have been left behind” during the pandemic. YPulse’s education report found that 76% of middle school and high school students say remote learning has been difficult. (NYTimes)
