Most Millennials don’t plan to return to the gym post-COVID, reshaping the future of working out. It’s no secret that gyms have been “hit hard” by COVID, and according to TD Ameritrade, 59% of Americans don’t plan to return to their gym after the pandemic—and among Millennials, 82% say they have tried working out at home during the pandemic and 81% say they prefer it. Many analysts believe that gyms and fitness centers are becoming “a thing of the past,” with Peloton’s chief membership officer comparing gyms to arcades, which disappeared once people realized they could have the same experience in their homes. YPulse’s health and fitness report found that 48% of young consumers with gym memberships pre-COVID have cancelled them, and predicted the preference for at-home solo workouts would continue well past the pandemic.
