College students are rethinking their “dream job” because of the pandemic. According to the Labor Department, the unemployment rate for 16-24-year-olds is currently at 11.5%—so it’s no wonder that, Gen Z college students have considered switching their majors with hopes that it would lead them to the careers they want. Another factor impacting them is how most companies have shifted to remote work: Many young people no longer feel the need to move to big urban areas like NYC to find a job. In some cases, they’re creating their own jobs and launching their own businesses. YPulse’s Life Plans, Rewritten research found that 60% of college students agree, “The pandemic has made me reassess my career goals.” (CNBC)
