A new era of celebrity tabloids have arrived on social media.

Dec 16 2020

A new era of celebrity tabloids have arrived on social media. In recent years, young consumers have been following tea accounts to get their celebrity gossip fix, and Deuxmoi on Instagram is one of the latest profiles they’re following—and their focus on being lighthearted and nice is winning them followers. The account was born out of “quarantine boredom” and has become “a rare bright spot” in the digital world. While the posts are “unconfirmed,” the anonymously-run account takes tips and submissions from tidbits of random information to sightings of celebrities like J.Lo, Blake Lively, David Schwimmer, and Leonardo DiCaprio—all in a non-cruel way. Since March, the account has grown its 45K followers “more than tenfold.” Lately, young users have been moving away from snarky gossip. Recently, Perez Hilton, who was using TikTok to report gossip about influencers, was banned from the app after being targeted by fans of some of its biggest creators. (Vox, NYTimes)
