Pizza Hut just added plant-based meat to their menu. Following the announcement of McDonald’s plant-based alternative line McPlant, Pizza Hut is the next fast food chain to ramp up their faux meat offerings. The restaurant, which is the “first national pizza chain” to jump on the plant-based protein train, partnered with Beyond Meat to add two pizzas to their menu, both featuring “a faux sausage blend.” During the pandemic, young people have accelerated the fake meat trend and consumer demand has been “sky high,” while retail sales for the foods are “way up.” According to one expert, fast food chains are “clearly committed,” and they’re expecting 2021 to be “an explosive year” for the industry.
