Instagram has transformed sneaker culture. Since its launch 10 years ago, Instagram has changed the way young consumers take and share photos. Along the way, it also became a space for users to flaunt what they wear—from “high-fashion jackets” to the “most hyped footwear.” Young sneakerheads who often hung around streetwear sites like NikeTalk and Hypebeast migrated over to Instagram. While “purists” don’t appreciate how Instagram has turned the sneaker game into an “elitist” one, the social app’s influencer goes beyond just photos of “highly coveted shoes”: Brands, retailers, and media networks have since recognized the value and importance of covering sneakers.
