Gen Z is giving emojis new meanings.

Oct 02 2020

Gen Z is giving emojis new meanings. Millennials might have been the first to embrace emojis, but thanks to Gen Z the use of the symbols has “progressively evolved.” The way they communicate with emojis is “weirder, more ironic, even more nuanced,” creating new meaning as they combine and subvert images to suit their dark humor and internet savvy commentary. Teen girls are also the originators of some of the biggest recent emoji trends (like “No ❤️”) which then spread to other demographics and generations. (VICE)
