Gaps years are so common during COVID that Boise State University launched a gap year program for students. YPulse’s research on Gen Z’s Education Interrupted found that 60% of college students say COVID-19 has changed their academic plans in some way, with some reconsidering whether they will go to college at all. Now, Boise State is trying to reach those first-time and returning students who aren’t quite ready to go on campus by creating the Bronco Gap Year program. The new program is split into four pathways that include “changemakers,” “life-changing,” “world-changing,” and a build your own option, with pathways designed to provide learning opportunities, professional and product development, structured experience, and reflection support.
