New York Comic Con is still happening—on YouTube. After San Diego’s International Comic Con got cancelled and rebranded into “Comic-Con@Home” last month, it’s New York’s turn to cancel their in-person comic book convention and migrate online. In October, event company ReedPop, who operates New York Comic Con, is partnering with YouTube to bring fans a “New York Comic Con’s Metaverse.” The online experience will feature livestream panels on popular TV series like CBS All Access’ Star Trek and Starz’ American Gods, and attendees can use YouTube’s live chat feature to join discussions. Other programming will include watch parties, professional workshops, and the chance to buy three-minute virtual meet-and-greets. During the pandemic, livestreamed events continue to be a popular way for brands to connect with young consumers. (Variety, NYTimes)
