With ecommerce sales soaring, brands are expanding their online presence. According to a SpendingPulse report from Mastercard, ecommerce sales in the U.S. jumped by 92.7% last month, and young consumers spent more than $53 billion on online shopping in April and May. The same research found that sales for hardware products rose by 36.2%, home furniture sales went up by 7.5%, and grocery sales increased by 9.2% year-over-year, both in-store and online. In the wake of these shifts, big companies are making changes. For example, Zara is rethinking their footprint to “focus on digital sales,” and Walmart is partnering with ecommerce shopping platform Shopify in “a direct shot at Amazon.” (Retail Dive, TechCrunch)
