Restaurants are relying on delivery apps to survive, but fees are making it hard to stay open for some.

Jun 11 2020

Restaurants are relying on delivery apps to survive, but fees are making it hard to stay open for some. At-home dining has replaced restaurant visits, with 21% of 13-39-year-olds telling YPulse they have ordered food more during COVID-19. Delivery has become the only option for many restaurants, and many have turned to services like Grubhub and UberEats. But while these apps have claimed to assist with business during the pandemic, many restaurateurs are saying that hidden fees are hurting them. Many are complaining, some are closing, and others are cutting ties with the apps to “find other ways to take orders.” (NYTimes)
