Retailers suffering damage due to the protests are opting to support the demonstrations.

Jun 03 2020

Retailers suffering damage due to the protests are opting to support the demonstrations. Already “battered by the pandemic,” many stores and chains in major cities are closing stores and seeing property destroyed in the riots. But many are choosing to not condemn the damages or the actions of the protests. Brands like Nordstrom and Marc Jacobs have made statements that the events have been a “painful reminder” of the injustices in the world and emphasize that while “property can be replaced, human lives cannot.” Adidas, one of many brands that “relies on young black consumers” has closed its U.S. stores and released a statement voicing solidarity with protestors—though some say they were not specific enough about the actions they will take.
