Thanks to Coronavirus, Facebook Messenger Kids is having its moment. YPulse’s social media behavior survey found that 66% of Millennials use Facebook Messenger in February—but the social network’s separate app, Messenger Kids, wasn’t as popular. Until the pandemic. Now, out-of-school kids are using the platform to stay connected to friends and parents are liking that it gives them full access and approval of contacts. According to SensorTower, there was a “noticeable increase” in downloads of Messenger Kids when quarantines began. Many young kids are using it to just chat with their classmates they can’t see in person—and in some cases, are using it to come up with choreography routines for other Gen Z-popular app TikTok.
