Being beloved by Gen Z isn’t enough to keep Forever 21’s beauty stores open. Riley Rose was seen as the fast-fashion chain’s potential savior in the retail wasteland, since the Instagrammable stores are stocked with beauty brands that young demos can’t find, let alone try on, in drug stores—including K-beauty lines. But three locations have already closed, as Forever 21 finds out for themselves why stores like Sephora also stock “prestige products” targeted at older demos: young people simply spend less than their parents.
