Young adults are the most confident when it comes to online security—but they shouldn’t be. The Harris Poll found that 71% of 16-24-year-olds believe they wouldn’t be the victim of a phishing scam, but only 44% could correctly define “phishing.” Meanwhile, older generations were less confident, despite more knowing what “phishing” means. The young demo is also breaking a cardinal rule of privacy protection: 78% of 16-24-year-olds use the same password across multiple online accounts, compared to 67% of 25-49-year-olds and 60% of those over 50.
