Parents and students are protesting Silicon Valley’s high-tech education initiatives. Summit, a Zuckerberg-funded program, promotes “personalized learning” via individual laptops, with the teacher acting as a “mentor” rather than a lecturer. But many are finding the lack of human interaction and the increase in screen time causes both physical and mental stress. So far, Summit has been steadily rebuked by schools that were at first excited to embrace it, with protest signs, walkouts, and outright bans cropping up across the U.S. (NYT)
