In reaction to Instagrammable families with obviously-staged pics, up-and-coming influencers are posting their post-partum journeys, dessert-making failures, and other relatable moments. The “Unicorn Mom,” defined by Urban Dictionary as “A mother who’s not perfect, enjoys alcohol, has a sense of humor, and couldn’t care less what you think” exemplifies the closer-to-reality (but still carefully curated) social media movement.
