Is “snowplow parenting” the new helicopter parenting? The parents accused of bribing their kids’ way into elite universities in the recent #CollegeCheatingScandal are an extreme example of how today’s parents are snowplowing all the obstacles in their kids’ path to success. But it turns out that even legal means of giving kids a leg up, like arguing with teachers about grades, could hurt them in the long run. Stanford’s former dean of freshmen explains, “The point is to prepare the kid for the road, instead of preparing the road for the kid.” (NYT)
