What comes after microinfluencers? Meet the “nanoinfluencers.” The next wave of social media influencers is full of people with as few as 1,000 followers with deals with major brands, like Suave and Clinique, who are seeking authentic engagement at a low cost. As big influencers become more expensive and their followings more closely scrutinized (ahem, fake followers), people who can pitch merch to an engaged, albeit small, audience are in higher demand—especially when many will accept freebie products as payment.
