Children’s feelings about their gym classes could impact their exercise habits as adults.

Children’s feelings about their gym classes could impact their exercise habits as adults. An Iowa State study found that 18-40-year-olds have “vivid and emotionally charged” memories of gym class. Those who had positive associations were more likely to still enjoy exercise as adults while those harboring negative memories—like being picked last for a sports team—were less likely to. So, some say schools should consider focusing less on competition and fitness tests and more on “teach[ing] kids that moving is fun.” (NYT)
