Every month, Uniqlo sells $10,000 worth of vests out of one airport vending machine. The brand’s SFO-based vending machine sells down vests for $50 a piece, and the internet thinks they’re playing into stereotypes, observing that the items are perfect for “visiting VCs” (as in “Venture Capitalists”). But it’s paying off. In our Shoppability research, we found that 25% of 13-36-year-olds would consider buying clothes from a vending machine, and Uniqlo is showing how to tap into the trend.
