Country clubs are struggling to attract younger clientele. Over 5,000 full-service country or golf clubs were in operation in the ‘90s; that number has dropped below 4,000 this year. Not only do country clubs project outdated ideas about exclusivity, but they rely on a sport that’s seeing participation drop: golf. If the institution wants to survive, they’ll have to take cues from today’s thriving private membership clubs, like Soho House and The Wing. They can start by rethinking their image, adding extra perks, and getting more inclusive. (CityLab)
