Douyin (AKA “Tik Tok”) is basically Musical.ly, the teen-beloved U.S. app for lip-syncing along to music videos—and the similarity makes sense considering Bytedance acquired Musical.ly last year. Douyin was downloaded over 45 million times in the first quarter of 2018 according to Sensor Tower, and Bytedance claims Musical.ly and Douyin together boast over 100 million monthly active users worldwide.
