Amazon’s shift to cashier-less brick-and-mortar stores is spreading. In Hangzhou, China, Alibaba’s new Futuremart store uses facial recognition technology to ID incoming shoppers who then use an app to scan a QR code to begin their purchasing. A “Happy Go” happiness meter located within the store also offers discounts for smiling. Panasonic is also looking to go the Amazon way, recently testing walk-in/walk-out radio-frequency Checkout technology. (brandchannel)
