Minimal, new “dumb” phones are fighting smartphone addiction. Light launched its first version of the anti-smartphone in 2015, a device that could only make calls—over 10,000 were sold. Now, they’re preparing to debut the Light Phone 2, a credit-card sized device with a Less is More aesthetic. The new version will make calls but also send and receive texts, set alarms, give simple directions, and call a taxi—eliminating the need for app-cluttered, addictive devices for users who don’t want to go completely cold turkey with a call-only device.
