In reaction to rising teen depression and suicide rates, pediatricians are endorsing universal, annual screenings for everyone 12-and-up. The American Academy of Pediatrics’ updated guidelines will outline the new recommendation, asking for teens to add on their depression screening to their annual physical or other regular appointments. Only about half of adolescents suffering from depression receive a diagnosis before they become adults, and this new initiative hopes to change that. (NPR)
