Streetwear has taken the main stage but it’s still not considered “fashion” by many. From Stüssy to Bape and Supreme, the athleisure obsession has morphed into something more. One critic makes the case that “[s]ome of the greatest fashion of the past few years has been created by those who have focused on sweatshirts and track pants,” but the term “streetwear” still prevails. Why? “Because fashion has become too closely linked to luxury in the minds of most.” But Millennials, Gen Z, and even kids are in on the streetwear trend, meaning a re-defining of luxury and a reckoning for the fashion industry are at hand.
